THE BLESSING OF EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH GENESIS Chapter 48 THE BLESSING OF EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH   I. Introduction A. Matthew 10:16 B. Luke 16:1-13

1. Joseph a “shrewd” businessman. 2. He was faithful. 3. The Lord blessed him! 4. Joseph “served” the Lord! 5. The Lord was his Master.

a) Don’t let your money use you!” b) We should serve Jesus with our best!   C. The fulfillment of the promises of the Lord to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! II. Genesis 48:1-2

A. Jacob is elderly. 1. Joseph pays him a visit.   III. Genesis 48:3-6 A. Jacob recounts promise to make him a great nation!

1. Jacob knows Ephraim and Manasseh fit into this promise! 2.  He “adopts” them. a) They each become one of the 12 tribes! b) Any more children will be tribes of their brothers.”

(1) They will be of the tribe of Ephraim or Manasseh!   B. Appear as #13 & #14! 1. Joseph not counted as a tribe - leaving 13! 2. Levi also not counted leaving 12!

C. One more thing : 1. God’s promises worth more than all the wealth of Egypt! IV. Genesis 48:8-9 A. Jacob’s vision was diminishing.

V. Genesis 48:10-14 A. Joseph puts Manasseh on Jacob’s right –side of honor! 1. Continues with a blessing. VI. Genesis 48:15-18

A. Jacobs sees the Lord as his “Redeemer”! 1. Joseph thinks he made a mistake. VII. Genesis 48:19-22 A. Ephraim to become leader over Manasseh!

1. Ephraim will become the most powerful tribe. 2. Manasseh marched under the banner of Ephraim! 3. Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim.   VIII. CONCLUSION
