Foreign Policy: Europe & Russia Kelly & Hilary

 Definition: policy pursued by a nation in its dealing with other nations, designed to achieve national objectives

Russia Issues  U.S heavily criticized Russia’s decision to supply fuel to one of Iran’s new nuclear reactors (2005)  Conflicts:  Media rights  Iran  U.S military policy in Europe

Europe Issues  Arguments of Turkey’s acceptance into European Union could result in an era of free trade and economic and diplomatic unity between greater Europe and the Middle East  War in Iraq  Middle East peace process  Global Warming  Europe should no longer be central to U.S foreign policy

Solutions  Most European nations, in turn, are working to make their own continent a formidable presence to rival the influence of the U.S.  U.S is willing to implement foreign policy objectives  Iraq War (with or without European partners)

Examples Many observers believe Europe should no longer be central to U.S foreign policy, but the U.S believes that the surest path to long-term security success worldwide is to strengthen the alliance Russia can remain a U.S ally on vital global issues, such as increasing international trade and fighting terrorism

Presidents Role President Bush believed he and Russia could develop a new strategic framework for U.S- Russian relations based on mutual trust and shared economic and security interest President Obama wants a foreign policy that ensures the safety of U.S people

Agree or Disagree? Yes, because the policy solutions are trying to improve long-term security worldwide.
