The Financial Crisis in France L.O. to explain how foreign policy contributed to the outbreak of the Revolution L.O. to identify the financial problems that France was facing prior to the Revolution

The cost of war The Seven Years War France had a very hostile relationship with both Britain and Austria. However, by the 18th C France had resolved her differences with Austria and they were allies in The Seven Years War (1756-1763) against Britain. France and Austria suffered crushing defeats at the hands of the British and much of its overseas territory had been lost to the British (1763).

The Cost of War The American War of Independence Following her defeat in the seven years war France dreamt of revenge on Britain. Her opportunity came decided to aid the Americans who had rebelled against British rule. Although France actually won the war cost a great deal of money and in the short term worsened the already weak financial situation of the crown. Also French soldiers had been exposed to ideas such as liberty and democracy and many demanded similar rights for the people of France.

Key Question How did Foreign Policy contribute to the outbreak off the Revolution? Foreign Policy is one of the short-term causes of the French Revolution!
