Typing at a Point: Not unlike typing in any basic word processing program, to type at a point you click in a document with the Type Tool and start typing. Typing in an Area: To type in an object, click and drag with the Type Tool or Vertical Type Tool and then start typing within the area. Typing on a Path: You can create text that flows along an open or closed path. Select the Type Tool and click on any defined path and start typing.

Typing on a Path Options: Allows you to change the layout of your type on the path above or below the baseline. Also gives you the option to use different effects with the type. *You can access these Options by simply double clicking the ‘Type on a Path’ Tool Icon.

1.Open New Letter Size Document 2.Access the Shape Tool, create one of each shape (rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, polygon, star). 3.Access the Type on a path tool, click on the path of each shape and type your name in 21 point 4.Second Part: Create your own paths using the Pen or Pencil tool. (Horizontal Or Vertical) 5.Type your name on each path that you create 6.Access the Type on a path options and experiment with the different effects and alignment. 7.Save as ‘YourName. Path. Ai’

Area type (also called paragraph type) uses the boundaries of an object to control the flow of characters, either horizontally or vertically. When the text reaches a boundary, it automatically wraps to fit inside the defined area. Entering text this way is useful when you want to create one or more paragraphs, such as for a brochure. Area Type Vertical Area Type

Here is an example of Area Type inside a Polygon Shape. First use the shape tool to create the shape, then select the Area Type Tool and click on the border of the shape. Your cursor will appear inside the shape, then simply begin typing.
