 It is a problem or struggle that occurs between two opposing forces  There are many different types of conflict, but we are going to focus on 5 › Character v Character › Character v Self › Character v Nature › Character v Society › Character v Machine/Technology

 This is the one that is most familiar  This occurs when two characters come into conflict with each other › I.E. Batman must fend off another one of Joker’s attacks  Therefore, Batman v Joker

 This is a little more difficult to identify  This occurs when a character has an internal struggle with one of his/her personality traits (anger, impatience, procrastination, etc.) › I.E. John is easily angered by the slightest things. So when he drops his cell phone he starts yelling at everyone around him  Therefore, John v his anger

 Nature is any force dealing with Mother Nature (tornados, thunderstorms, droughts, blizzards, etc.)  This occurs when a character struggles against a natural force › Amy is home all alone with her baby sister when the tornado hits.  Therefore, Amy v Tornado

 A society is a group of people that have something in common (cheerleading squad, Indians, cowboys, a family, etc)  This occurs when a character comes into conflict with a society or group of people › I.E. John always gets picked on by the football players because he can’t make the team.  Therefore, John v. the Football Team

 In today’s technological age this is becoming more and more prevalent  Machine/ technology are things like computers, medical advances, cell phones, etc) › I.E. Amy is playing Candy Crush but can’t seem to beat the level. She’s bee stuck on it for a week now.  Therefore, Amy v a Video Game
