How can Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 help you share information? PowerPoint 2007©: The Power of Presentations How can Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 help you share information?

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics PowerPoint presentations help you to share information by displaying your message visually.

Lesson 1 Objectives: Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics • Identify parts of the PowerPoint screen • Work with the Ribbon, tabs, and groups • Open an existing presentation • Insert and edit text on slides • start and run slide shows • Preview and print a presentation

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics As you plan your PowerPoint presentation, ask yourself the following questions: Who is my audience? How can I make my presentation interesting to my audience? What will keep their attention? What do they already know, and what do they need to know?

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics The PowerPoint screen contains Title bar Quick Access Toolbar Start button and status bar Slide pane Notes pane

Slide pane is on the right Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics PowerPoint automatically opens presentations in Normal View, which divides the screen into two sections. The Slides and Outline tabs are on the left. Outline tab Slides tab Slide pane is on the right

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics The Slides and Outline tabs show you different ways to view your presentation. The Slides tab shows you a miniature version of each slide in your presentation.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics Use the Slides tab to organize the slides in your presentation. You can cut a slide from one location and paste it into another location. You can also drag a slide from one position and drop it in another.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics In the Outline tab, click the slide icon next to each slide to move among slides. The Outline tab displays the content of your presentation in outline form. You can use both panes to move around in your presentation.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics Slide Sorter View shows you small images of all the slides in your presentation in the slides pane. You can use Slide Sorter View to add more slides or change the order of slides in a presentation.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics To move from slide to slide, use the scroll bar on the right edge of the screen or the Page Up/Down keys on the keyboard The Next Slide and Previous Slide buttons also help you move among slides.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics Presentations usually begin with a title slide. The title slide displays the title and subtitle. Title of slide When you create a new title slide, it contains a preset text box called a placeholder for the title and subtitle.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics When you create a new content slide, it contains placeholders for the title and text. Placeholder Each text box contains placeholders to let you know where to add content.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics You can set up a slide show to run automatically, or you can manually move from slide to slide. To run a slide show manually, use the Set Up Show dialog box.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics You can choose to show only selected slides instead of an entire presentation. Use the Set Up Show dialog box to: Identify the slide numbers you want to include Hide specific slides Loop your presentation from the last slide back to the first

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics You can print any number of slides—from a single slide to the entire presentation. Select the slides you want to print in the Print dialog box.

Lesson 1: PowerPoint Basics Instead of printing slides, you can print handouts, which have one or more slides on each page and space to take notes. Handouts allow your audience to follow your presentation, and they provide a record of the items discussed.
