2 Contents Introduction IPv6 Performance Test Background Transition mechanism for test Equipment Test Configuration & Result Test summary conclusion

3 Introduction IPv6 activities in KT 1999 KT have got first commercial IPv6 address allocation in Korea 1999 Korea’s first native IPv6 network on KOREN (Technology laboratory) 2001 Mobile IPv6 Test (Multimedia laboratory)

4 Background We want to minimize the investment for IPv6 Consider using legacy network and idle equipment for IPv6 Need the information about IPv6 performance on legacy network Determine IPv6 deployment strategy based on the performance test result

5 Transition Mechanism for Test Daul Stack Applications UDP/TCP IPv4 Physical Layer Applications UDP/TCP IPv6 Physical Layer Applications UDP/TCP IPv4 Physical Layer IPv6 6/4 6 4 IPv4/IPv6 Dual Network IPv4 IPv6

Test Configuration & Results Dual Stack (Cisco 7513)

Test Configuration & Results Dual Stack (Cisco 12000) Router Tester 4/ Gigabit Ethernet interface Cisco 12008

Test Configuration & Results Dual Stack Cisco (Gigabit Ethernet)

Test Configuration & Results Dual Stack Cisco (POS 2.5G)

Test Configuration & Results 6to4 Tunnel

Test Configuration & Results 6to4 Tunnel

Test Configuration & Results IPv6 over MPLS (Cisco 6PE)

Test Configuration & Results IPv6 over MPLS (Cisco 6PE)

Test Summary IPv6 performance is inferior to IPv4 The Cisco router enables IPv6 routing based on software not hardware 6to4 tunneling performance is very poor but Cisco 6PE performance is good The MPLS labeling doesn’t affect the performance of IPv6.

Conclusion What we have done   Test and verification of IPv6 protocols   Test and verification of IPv4/IPv6 transition mechanisms   The performance evaluation of IPv6 equipment   Design and operation of the Korea’s first native IPv6 network What we will do   Provide IPv4/IPv6 migration plan and IPv6 deployment strategy   Develop IPv6 applications and services   Provide field trial prior to commercial service
