Automation Presentation to KIB-TEK, Northern Cyprus (19/09/2007)

Introductions  Graham Pryce – International Sales Manager Lucy Switchgear, United Kingdom

Topics Covered  What can Lucy Switchgear offer?  Our Proposal  How will KIB-TEK benefit from investing in Automation systems?  Project References  Any Questions?

What can Lucy Switchgear offer?

 Over 15 years of experience in the design and implementation of distribution automation systems  Full turnkey automation system solutions  All the necessary building blocks for an automated system including: - automated medium voltage switchgear - Retrofit actuator systems - Remote terminal units to provide the telecontrol interface - Communication options - SCADA system for monitoring and controlling the secondary automated sites

What can Lucy Switchgear offer?  Automation services include: - System design & integration - Communication surveys - Factory acceptance testing in UK - Comprehensive training for products & systems supplied i.e. first line support by KIB-TEK - Project management from system design to final commissioning  On-going technical support  Long term relationship and understanding of KIB-TEK’s requirements  Local support from E&S Ltd, our representative in Northern Cyprus

Our Proposal

Lucy Switchgear’s Proposal  Apply the concept of remote control/ automation to a substantial part of the KIB-TEK 11kV distribution network  Identify rogue circuits where benefits could be quickly realised  Implement a standalone secondary SCADA system to facilitate an efficient roll-out of the project.  Upgrade existing distribution assets with automation functionality e.g. ring main units and ABSDs on the 11kV network or new equipment, where appropriate

Lucy Switchgear’s Proposal  Utilise a mix of communication media such as high power radio and GSM and a de-facto standard protocol such as DNP3  KIB-TEK staff to be trained to provide first line support for automation systems installed  Our approach could be implemented within a six to nine months period with sufficient commitment and resource  Take advantage of the Automation experience gained by Lucy Switchgear both in the UK and elsewhere in the world

How will KIB-TEK benefit from investment in Automation systems?

How will KIB-TEK benefit?  Enhanced understanding of the state of the distribution network  Improved network performance e.g. faster restoration times, availability and security  Reduction in the loss of revenues through the meters during outages  Enhanced customer service through better restoration times

How will KIB-TEK benefit?  Decrease in costs associated with operational staff and transport  Extend the life of existing assets with increased functionality  Improve customer perception of KIB- TEK

Project References

 EDF Energy, UK: On-going supply of automated SABRE VRN2a with integral RTU suitable for communicating over a data packet network.  S&SE, UK: 750 retrofit automation kits installed comprising actuator and interface control electronics. Also trialing 6 off RAPIER GX-RC/S12 with GSM communications and the DNP3 protocol  ECG, Ghana: 35 automated sites both on the 11kV ring main units with retrofit actuators/ RTUs and 33kV air break switch diconnectors – all communicating through radio links and the DNP3 protocol

Project References  EAC, Cyprus: 85 RMU retrofit actuators and 60 Rapier RX-RC24s for a remote control pilot project. Rapier RX-RC24 devices are embedded with IEC firmware and communications achieved via the GSM network.  Central Networks, UK: Trials of automated FRMUs for Auto-changeover at open point and Auto-open at midpoint. Equipped with Gemini-RTU and Paknet communications. 350 off Rapier RX-RC12’s installed on network. Also, over 80 retrofit actuator/ G2-RTU packages installed  Northern Ireland Electricity, UK: Trials of Rapier RX-RC12s being remotely controlled using the IEC protocol and high power radio communications. 120 off Gemini-RTUs supplied for autorecloser interfaces.  NEC, Sudan: Over 35 automated SABRE VRN2a installed at mid and open points; equipped with G2-RTUs and GSM communications.
