Solar Power -Power From The Sun Objective : This projects consists of all of the four components of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). We will be building Solar Powered Ovens to show how the Sun produces energy. Science -Demonstrating how the Sun can power different items. Technology -Using the computer to show steps of how to make the oven. Engineering -Being able to design and construct Solar Oven. Mathematics -Calculating area and perimeter of solar oven to hold 6 pre-cut 1 inch cookies. Summary of the Project
Materials Wooden Slabs (various sizes) Paint (non-toxic) Hammer Styrofoam Nails Decorations Black Felt or other absorbent material Heavy duty aluminum material Power Saw Measuring tape Gorilla glue Mirrors Materials
The Inside of the Oven 1” 9 inches 7 inches 1” Perimeter : 32 inches Area : 93 inches squared
Predicted Design of Oven
Pegs : 1 inch by 1 inch squares Base : 9 inches by 11 inches Slabs : 9 inches by 2 inches and 11 inches by 2 inches Mirrors : Whatever size it is. Or 5 inches by 5 inches Measurements
Now we will cook 6 pre-cut 1 inch cookies in our solar oven to see whom oven will cook better. Cooking
Step 1 : First, we measured our wood and had it cut. Step 2 : Second, we started to glue for two days. Step 3 : Then, we started to paint and decorate. Step 4 : Afterwards we glued and taped our reflectors, black felt, and styrofoam. The Process
After we baked we found out what we could have changed I could have not used the Styrofoam because it was no help at all. Also, I found out that my cookies cooked well in my oven. After We Bake
