Redistricting Charter Which elementary or middle school students should be assigned to each of our elementary or middle schools? What plans should be provided for grandfathering students/ siblings to their current school?

Criteria To the greatest extent possible: Assign students to attend schools closest to their homes Maintain neighborhoods and subdivisions Balance enrollments and promote effective, efficient use of facilities Minimize the number of students who will have to change schools Allow for some enrollment grown in all buildings Develop a plan that will not require frequent redistricting Results will have a favorable impact upon our transportation system

The Process Committee Work  Over 400 hours of meetings/discussions/computer work Community Forums  West Grove Elementary School (150+)  Middle School Central (50+)  Maple Grove Elementary School (50+) On-line input  Information put on all corporation web pages  notification sent to all parents  Online input gathered through submitted comments (190+)

Elementary School Student Changes

Grandfathering Incoming 5 th and 8 th graders may request to continue enrollment at their home school.  Siblings of grandfathered students are not included  Parents are responsible for transportation to and from school  Students must arrive at school on-time each day and must be picked up in a timely fashion at the end of each day  Continued misbehavior or failing to drop off or pick up students in a timely manner may result in the revoking of the approved transfer request any time during the school year

School Choice To transfer to schools outside of the assigned attendance area, the following guidelines will be followed and agreed to by all parties in advance of the transfer:  The parent or guardian may initiate transfer requests on behalf of their child/ren.  The transfer request form is available on the corporation website and must be used.  The person initiating the transfer will present detailed reasons for the transfer, which will be considered seriously in the approval process.  Once the request is made, it will be forwarded to the Assistant Superintendent.  Transfers that cause the receiving school or class to exceed reasonable size will not be approved.  Parents are responsible for transportation to and from school  Students must arrive at school on-time each day and must be picked up in a timely fashion at the end of each day  Continued misbehavior or failing to drop off or pick up students in a timely manner may result in the revoking of the approved transfer request any time during the school year

Plan Attributes Process Community input Representation by all stakeholders on the committee Followed charter and criteria to the greatest degree possible Anticipated neutral impact on class size Well-defined boundaries

Challenges Limited space for enrollment growth  Moving from six (6) schools to five (5)  Grandfathering and School Choice limitations Ability to predict how long this redistricting plan will be in place to do economic conditions “Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.” Arnold Bennett
