Course Redesigned Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile Delinquency is described in the course catalog as “The nature and extent of delinquency. Consideration of theories, delinquent subculture, and programs for control and prevention.” Juvenile Delinquency is described in the course catalog as “The nature and extent of delinquency. Consideration of theories, delinquent subculture, and programs for control and prevention.” Juvenile Delinquency is one of the upper division course electives for Sociology majors, Criminal Justice majors, and Social Psychology majors. The Sociology department has over 1000 majors and the Juvenile Delinquency course is a popular course. Natural intersection with the course’s focus on theories, prevention, and intervention, the team’s individual goals, and the goals of the CESI grant. Goals of Project - Students Provide more in-depth learning experience for students of the Juvenile Delinquency course. Students completing the course will understand how the concepts presented in the classroom apply to work in the community, by learning how to translate the abstracts concepts to concrete application. And the reverse, to learn how to take concrete application to inform ongoing developemtn of the abstract concepts.

Goal of Project Community Partner Student support of the current DTWT project to do outreach to middle schools principals, teachers, and school district superintendent’s office Gain insight on current research in DTWT’s focus area Co-creation and implementation of an essay to practice design for DTWT essay participants Mentor UMass Students as Peace Circle facilitators and data collectors Obtain resources, defined by community partners, for the middle school students involved in the peace circles Build ongoing community and student involvement with BCVI on campus and in the community

Outcome of Project Ongoing partnership with DTWT, Peace Circles, and BCVI New “Essay to Practice” applications of middle schools students ideas Continue to develop online connections between faculty, students, and community and the middles school essays that are available online at

What Team Wants to Get Resources from the CESI community: The support team, Cohort 1, Cohort 2, and the many faculty on campus that have significant wisdom in the area of community engaged scholarship Resources from the workshop process Provide feedback to the CESI community on opportunities and outcomes
