The Language of Newspapers Aim of today’s lesson: to look at the language of newspapers, to consider emotive language

Emotive Language Newspapers want to sell as many copies of their papers as possible. They try to lure their readers into their pages with juicy gossip, prizes or powerful and emotive stories. EMOTIVE LANGUAGE is language aimed at appealing directly to your emotions.

Your turn! Think of and write down an emotive word for the following examples: 1.Taking someone’s life 2.Needing food 3.Feeling very unhappy 4.Feeling very cross about something 5.A group of bored teenagers vandalising

Your Task: To write a newspaper article about a storm in Portishead that has damaged property and caused injuries/ a death. You need to come up with the details and language to make this an emotive story
