4.6 [2] Stakeholders of M2M Consolidation Brian Daly – Member of ATIS Delegation (AT&T Director, Core Network & Government/Regulatory Standards) Meeting of Potential M2M Consolidation Partners #2 August 17-18, 2011 Washington, DC M2MCons02_12

Meeting of Potential M2M Consolidation Partners # August 2011 Stakeholders of M2M Consolidation Vertical market players –M2M has many diverse markets and players –Initial outreach should target at least stakeholders in these market segments: Connected home Connected car/telematics mHealth Smart Grid Service Providers 2 But who are the “service providers” in an M2M ecosystem?

Meeting of Potential M2M Consolidation Partners # August 2011 Service Provider Stakeholders Traditional “telcos” and ISPs –Provide access/connectivity and basic transport –May provide adaptation layer in the network to support service requests from higher layers M2M “application providers” –These are the vertical market segments providing the end to end applications –These are not necessarily the traditional telcos/ISP/etc. New “service layer providers” –This is the layer being defined by the M2M Global Harmonization Initiative –New provider of services between the application layer and transport Provide set of services to allow M2M applications to run efficiently Could be run on IMS-based “Application Servers” for example, or in a traditional IP environment, could be new elements in the service layer architecture 3 Need to look at “service providers” differently in an M2M ecosystem

Meeting of Potential M2M Consolidation Partners # August 2011 Stakeholders of M2M Consolidation SDOs –Traditional “telecom” or ICT –Vertical segment SDOs Some vertical segments have accredited SDOs established –“Non- service layer” SDOs should are not envisioned to be directly involved at the global level, but rather through liaison activities for the definition of appropriate APIs or adaptation layers SDO/Fora that provide ancillary (to service layer) functions –E.g., IEEE, Bluetooth SIG, BBF, OMA, etc. 4
