Fundamentalism  Literal interpretation of the bible  When reading the bible believe that every word is true  Began to win power in 20’s

Darwin  Scientist who argued that all forms of life evolved over millions of years from other life forms

Fundamentalists  Gained in power - started changing laws to outlaw Darwinism

Scopes Trial  Tennessee passed the nation’s first law outlawing evolution  American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) promised to defend any teacher who would teach the law

Scopes Trial  John Scopes, from Ohio took the challenge  Arrested in classroom after teaching evolution
