Exposition = introductory section that presents time, place, characters, situation Elements of Plot of a Tragedy

Exciting Force = an event that happens to get the action moving

Rising Action = series of events leading up to the climax, during which complications develop Events are typically in favor of the protagonist at this point.

Climax = the highest point of action in the play, the turning point

Falling Action = when events begin to go against the protagonist; occurs after the climax

Moment of Final Suspense = moment near the end of the play when the situation looks like it will go in favor of the protagonist after all

Catastrophe = the complete downfall of the protagonist
