Charlotte Characteristics Prior to Reinvestment Grant Weaknesses:NO:  Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT)  Co-occurring disorders trained workforce  Cross-systems coordination  Strategic plan for criminal justice diversion Strengths:  Mobile Crisis Team  FACT, TFC (AFC)  Self-Directed Care  Recovery Center  Mental Health Court  Drug Court  Drop In Center  BOCC very supportive of mental health: overmatch by > $600K

Charlotte County Planning Grant Primary Activities  Full time Planner, Diversion Specialist at local community mental health agency  Create an active, effective Advisory Council inclusive of broad range of stakeholders  Consultation with Florida Partners in Crisis for Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) development  Technical Assistance Center for Sequential Intercept Mapping, training, consultation

Criminal Justice & Behavioral Health Advisory Council Committees  Communication between criminal justice, mental health, consumers and other community stakeholders  Education: Cross training on systems: courts, mental health, law enforcement, consumer and family issues; co-occurring training for behavioral health care organization; information sharing.  Service Expansion: Implement Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT), apply for Federal grant funding (SAMHSA, BJA Drug Court, Collaboration, Byrne/JAG).  Data and Information Sharing: Define data elements; eliminate barriers to effective exchange of information between partners.  Discharge Planning Improve case management, housing, employment, transportation and evidence-based treatment opportunities.

Accomplishments and Lessons Learned  FMHI Technical Assistance Center is critical to assist with planning tasks, provide training and very to lend credibility to ensure full support of all partners in the process.  Consumers are integral partners  1 st CIT training scheduled April 2009  Strategic plan and new collaborative partnerships will make Charlotte County more competitive for Federal grant $$  A little goes a long way; a great deal can be accomplished with <$65,000  Next steps: Repeat system mapping process for Juvenile Justice system
