Objective

Students will learn about different career options that they can choose from. The teacher will have a group discussion about different career choices and the students will name different careers that they know about. They will be listed on a word document so the whole class can see what they know already. After the students cannot name anymore careers they will watch a short YouTube clip about different types of careers. Students will also be asked if they know what career they want to go into. They can take the career quiz to see what they would be their ideal career path. Resources: Computer pathhttp:// pathObjective

Intuitive

Students will be broken up into partners and they will begin researching a career option that they are interested in. The same career cannot be used twice. Once the students have done a little research on their topic they will write key facts about their career on a poster board. They can use the resource given as a start to begin understanding what their career is. The teacher will explain to the class that these careers are something to strive to become and how working hard in school will help them obtain these goals. Resources: Computers, poster boards.

Positive/Strengths

Positive/Strengths Using the same poster board each group will showcase the benefits of their career choice. For example: As an educator one benefit would be helping mold the future. The students will need 2 to 3 benefits or positives for going into the assigned field. Resources: Computers, posters, pencils, marker.

Negatives/Weaknesses

To finish the poster board you and your partner will also find the negatives of working in the career. You will need to find 2- 3 negatives about working the specific career. This will help the students understand that not all careers are perfect so they will have to choose a career path they are passionate about. Resources: Computers, pencils, markers, poster board. Negatives/Weaknesses

Creative

Creative Students will dress up like a person in their career would be dressed as when they present their poster. The students will be able to show off their posters and explain to the students what their career path was all about. It would be somewhat like a career expo. The students would walk around and show what their career was about. This would allow each student to understand what each career was about and learn more information about them. Resources: Costumes

Thinking About Thinking

Students will write a short paragraph on the information that they learned in class about different career choices. The students will also write what they wanted to choose as a career as of now and why they chose that career. They will also answer if they changed their minds about the career choice they chose at the beginning of the lesson after learning about the many different career options they could choose from. The teacher will teach the students that if they believe in themselves and work hard, anything is possible. Resources: Paper, pencil

ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson deBono’s Thinking Hats Visual Learning, Assessment, and Online Resources: Assessment: 1. Students will be assessed by their work on their poster boards as well as the paragraph about what they learned. They will also have a chance to assess their partners for the group work that they completed together. Online Resources:
