Concussion Crisis By: Nathan Villalobos

Purpose Argument How to reduce the chance of the forces that cause a concussion to lead to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)? Concussion is a mild traumatic injury that occurs when a direct or indirect blow to the head rotates the brain, and disrupts normal functioning. Audience – Coaches, Parents, and Players

Focus on Concussion Crisis Awareness Technology and Equipment Diagnosing and Long-term effects People are not aware that for a concussion to happen a person does not have to be knocked. Types of forces that applied to a person. Linear and Rotating Forces Angular Force Impact force Look at symptoms Immediate, Physical, Functioning Concussion effects every one different. Epidemiological inspired public awareness. National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) and Sensors Technology Impact neural pathways Abnormal Protein called Tau Memory loss Suicide

Awareness We are more aware of concussion symptoms Invisible Injury Second Impact Syndrome Obvious signs Developed more technology By being aware of concussions we can help reduce greater effects.

Technology and Equipment Impact has to be directly to the brain Researchers found that sub concessive concussions have more effect They made sensor to put in helmets New helmets are primary focusing on reducing concussions New advances in technology are helping reduce the chance of a concussion.

Diagnosing and Long Term Effects People don’t have Loss of Consciousness Special Tests Impact neural pathways Concussion law HB 2038 Now that we can diagnose a concussion we are able to reduce the long term effects.

The Force Has On The Brain Awareness Technology and Equipment Diagnosing and Long Term Effects Suffering from CTE From repeated hits. Junior Seau Suicide Complained about various symptoms. Confirmation and Contribution to Science Dave Duerson Suicide Left and Right Hemisphere had shrunk Lou Creekmur Brain
