STD’s Introductory Statements Abstinence: Means to abstain (not participate) from sexual activity. You do not develop immunity to any of these diseases like you do to mumps or measles. You can get them over and over again. You do not get these diseases from doorknobs, toilet seats, or drinking glasses. STD’s attack the mucous membranes of the body General Terms STD = Sexually Transmissible Diseases Sexual Contact: Usually refers to sexual intercourse, but can also mean just touching of the genital areas.
