RHINO POACHING IN SOUTH AFRICA Abbigail Randle

Background  South Africa is home to more than 80% of Africa’s rhino populations.  Rhinos are poached for their horns for medicinal purposes.  The Black Rhino is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red list

Background Cont.  According to the Global Post, in this year alone 827 Rhinos have been poached in South Africa.

Questions  Why is Rhino poaching such an issue in Southern Africa. What is the medical significance?  What is being done to stop the poaching of Rhinos?

Method  Create a survey/questionnaire with questions that will help me better understand the issue  Conduct surveys with environmental advocates, conservationists, and educators that deal directly with the issue of poaching.  Collect data and draw conclusions based on the answers provided on the surveys.
