McGregor’s Theory X and Y Theory X managers believe Theory Y managers believe Employees dislike work and will avoid it if they can. Employees want to work so putting some effort into work is as natural as play or rest. Employees prefer to be directed, want to avoid responsibility. Employees want responsibility provided there are appropriate rewards. Employees need to be controlled and co-erced. Employees are generally quite creative. Employees are not ambitious. Employees seek satisfaction from work and not just money.
