INFSO-RI Enabling Grids for E-sciencE User Information Group report David Fergusson

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI e-Learning Requirement, Service Options and Plan EGEE 3rd Conference Start Need to coordinate EGEE documentation and improve access for users was identified at den Haag. NA2/NA3/NA4/SA1 Got together to form group to address this –Joanne Barnett, David Fergusson, Roberto Barbera, Torsten Antoni As the activity has progressed others have joined Subsequently the need was underlined by external reviewers of EGEE

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI e-Learning Requirement, Service Options and Plan EGEE 3rd Conference Identifying what needs to be done Single point of entry for EGEE documentation User focus in documentation

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI e-Learning Requirement, Service Options and Plan EGEE 3rd Conference UIG Work plan 1. That the main goal of the group is to have an entry point to EGEE which meets the needs of all user communities. The quality of this is also dependent on the appropriateness of the material it exposes. 2. In order to achieve this we must (not necessarily in this order): a - Identify the user groups we are aiming at b - Codify their needs so that we can meet them c - Identify and assess our existing assets d - Identify what material is missing e - Develop a user-centric interface for the existing assets f - Update existing material in the light of the above where necessary g - Develop materials to 'plug gaps' {NB The assumption here is that we are creating a general access point for all rather than one(s) targeted at individual user communities}

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI e-Learning Requirement, Service Options and Plan EGEE 3rd Conference UIG Workplan II The initial task is to identify what information is available and where (not a trivial task as was highlighted at den Haag). This will be split into 3 areas and assigned to the following: Users (Joanne Barnett (NA2)/Jim Buddin (NA2)/David Fergusson (NA3)) Applications Developers (David Fergusson (NA3) /Florence Jacq (NA4)) Operations Personnel (Torsten Antoni (SA1)) Once these have been identified it is possible to ensure the material is clearly presented on the public website and indeed throughout the technical pages. It should also identify any "holes" in the information which can be addressed with the individual activities and assistance of other members in the group. In order to facilitate this work, the group has produced a 'psuedo deliverable' TOC (attached) which will act as a framework for organising the information collated and its analysis. The group has agreed to suggest initial deadline of 1st PEB in April (7th) for having a lsit of the existing EGEE documentation for each of the areas identified above. A second deadline of last PEB in May (26th) for delivering a first draft of the attached document.
