Unit A Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop

What is Adobe Photoshop? Adobe Photoshop delivers powerful, industry-standard image-editing tools for designers who wants to produce sophisticated graphics (called digital image) for print and for the Web. Digital Image: A picture in an electronic form

Examples of what can you do with Adobe Photoshop. You can create your own artwork by using the drawing tools, the brushes, pictures you scanned, text tool, etc. => You create a masterpiece (i.e. creation of a logo) You can improve existing artwork by repairing damaged areas within an image or combine images

Sources for your Masterpiece Image: a collection of dots called pixels. Each pixel represents a color or shade. You can add, delete or modify the pixels within an image by using the Photoshop features and tools. Check out the Graphic File Formats Supported in Photoshop: Table 1 page 1-5

Starting Photoshop and Creating a File Demonstration New Window: Image size: Width and Height Resolution Mode Background Save the file: Difference between Save, Save As, and Save for Web

Opening an existing file Three different options to open an existing file: Opening in Photoshop Opening in Adobe Bridge Opening in Mini Bridge Browsing through files Recent open files feature Demonstration

Layers and History Palette Photoshop images are composed of one, many, or a group of layers. A layer is a section within an image that can be manipulated independently The layer palette displays all the layers and allow you to manipulate those layers

Demonstration: Order of the layers in the Layers Palette An active layer Hiding and displaying layers

History Palette Photoshop records each task you complete in a document in the History Palette This record of events, called states, makes it easy to see what changes occurred and tools or commands that you used to make the modifications Deleting a state = Undo Command. All the states created after the deleted state will be gone too. ( A quick way to undo several states) Creating a new document from any state. Demonstration
