What Caused the Industrial Revolution? World History 1/4/13

Industrializtion Industrialization is the growth of manufacturing activity in an economy or region.

Several Factors/Events Several factors and events lead to the Industrial Revolution. Agricultural Revolution Population Explosion Energy Revolution

Agricultural Revolution 2nd Agricultural Revolution Dutch built dikes to protect farmland from the sea. Used animal fertilizer to improve soil. British discovered ways to produce more food and invented the seed drill (deposited seeds in rows rather than scattering them wastefully over the land). Improvements lead to better food production.

Quick Assignment Go to page 197 Read the section titled “Enclosure Movement.” Answer the following writing prompt: What were the results of the enclosure movement? Be sure to write down the definition of “enclosure” in your notes

Population Explosion People ate better. Women gave birth to healthier babies. Improvements in medical care slowed the death rate. This population explosion created a demand for more goods.
