Van Essen Nursery Kaizen event April 2011 Order pulling for shipping. Key try-storm: Combined plant prep (weeding, tagging and pot changing) with order pulling. Presented by Jesus Zamudio and Dave Van Essen

 Focused on order pulling for shipping.  Identified 16 areas for improvement.

 Existing process:  Pull plants and bring them to shipping area for cleaning and customization.  Opportunity:  Bring customization to point-of use to minimize waste of motion.

 Key Try-Storm:  Combine plant prep (weeding, tagging and pot changing) with order pulling.  Including office and shipping team members provided “aha” moments.  Use a different color tag for customer name.

 Estimated savings of $7,000 to 9,000 annually in one process.  Nursery is making progress and tracking other improvement targets identified.
