DANCING I. WHAT DOES THE NT SAY? B. Lasciviousness: 1) “Licentiousness, absence of restraint, indecency, wantonness… shameless conduct” (Vine). 2) “Indecent bodily movements, unchaste handling of males and females” (Thayer). A. There is no “Thou shalt not dance”. DANCING 3) Work of the flesh (Gal. 5:19f). 4) Chambering & “wantonness” (Rom. 13:13). 5) Grouped with sexual sins (2 Cor. 12:21).

DANCING I. WHAT DOES THE NT SAY? D. Modesty, shamefastness & sobriety (1 Tim. 2:9). C. Delicately (Jas. 5:5): “To give oneself up to pleasure” (Vine). DANCING E. “…Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Mt. 5:28) F. So, while there is no verse that says, “Thou shalt not dance”; there are clear principles which apply!

DANCING II. ATTEMPTS TO JUSTIFY DANCING 1) Exercise at what cost (1 Tim. 4:7-8)? A. “It Is Good Exercise!” DANCING 2) No better way to exercise? 1) Sin has it’s elements of pleasure (Heb. 11:25; Mk. 6:22). B. “It Is Fun!” 1) Most will be lost (Mt. 7:13-14). C. “Everyone Is Doing It!” 2) Be not conformed to this world (Rom. 12:1-2).

DANCING II. ATTEMPTS TO JUSTIFY DANCING 1) Does end justify the means (Ro. 3:8)? D. “It Helps Develop Poise!” DANCING 2) Promote chaste behavior? (1 Pet. 3:1-6) 1) Responsible if cause others to fall! (Mt. 5:28; 18:6; Ex. 20:26) E. “I Can Dance Without Evil Thoughts!” 2) We are to “flee” youthful lusts! (2 Tim. 2:22)

DANCING II. ATTEMPTS TO JUSTIFY DANCING 1) Would boys be interested in dancing if only boys were going? E. “Dancing Is Not Sexual!” DANCING 2) What if we turned off the music & let the dancers continue the same movements? Is it still “not sexual”?

DANCING III. DIFFERENT KINDS OF DANCING C. Lust & Pleasure (Ex. 32:6, 18-19, 25; Mk. 6:22). B. Praise & Worship (Ps. 149:3; 150:4). A. Joy & Victory (Ex. 15:20-21; Judges 11:34; 1 Sam. 18:6; 2 Sam. 6:12-16; 1 Chron. 15:29; Ps. 30:11; Eccl. 3:4; Lk. 15:25; Jer. 31:13). DANCING Not mixed, sensual dances. Not authorized in the N.T. Not authorized in the O.T. or N.T.

DANCING IV. APPLICATION A. Authorized realm for sexual behavior is in a proper marriage relationship. (Heb. 13:4) DANCING B. Parents, teach your children a “hands off” policy! No dancing. No making out. Confine such passionate behavior to scriptural marriage. 1. It will preserve their purity now. 2. Make their marriage unique & valuable. 3. Save their souls from a very popular sin!

DANCING IV. APPLICATION C. Things connected with dancing: DANCING 1. Balls, School Dances, Proms. 2. Cheer leading, Ballet. 3. Parties, Weddings, Anniversaries, etc. “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God” (1 Thess. 4:3-5).
