President’s Division FY12 Budget Presentation to the SBPC 6/25/10

The President’s Division: President’s Office- committed to carrying out the mission of the University Legal Counsel- Responsible for all legal matters relating to the University. Affirmative Action- Strive to eliminate inequality and discrimination and to foster a climate of tolerance and inclusiveness, and promote opportunities for full participation in university life. NCAA Compliance- Uphold NCAA bylaws related to all areas of college sports; available to provide interpretations to the coaches and student-athletes.

Goals & Initiatives in Support of the Academic Plan 1.Creation of the SBPC to insure transparency and efficiency in the budget processes and allocation of resources; to ensure that shared governance reflects shared responsibility between administration and faculty. 2.Creation of the JCAP to conduct a regular review of the Academic Plan and ensure it continues to reflect the needs of the University in light of new opportunities and challenges. 3.Promotion of professional development and synergy among faculty as reflected in the recent trip to China with administrators and faculty and the planning for what might be the first offshore wind farm in the nation.

Outreach & Ideas Collaboration with Brown University; leveraging the capabilities of the faculty and students at URI to assist businesses. Working with the state and RIC to build a state-of-the-art nursing- education facility in Providence. A vision for turning URI into a innovative, flexible, responsive and adaptable 21st-century university. Strive to set a new standard for collaboration where collective, efforts provide innovative education, stimulate broad-based research advances that catalyze the development of a new, sustainable, knowledge-based economy Provide leadership in solving the grand challenges of the 21st century. To make the university full partners with business in facilitating discovery and research agendas.

FY12 Budget Request Chief Diversity Officer Position Report directly to the President Responsible for both Diversity and Affirmative Action. Focus on providing creative leadership for diversity, equity, and global initiatives Transform current programs, curricula, and initiatives. Provide vision and strategic planning to enhance the diversity of the University’s faculty, curricula, and global initiatives. Lead the creation of metrics and benchmarks to help decision makers at all levels of the institution integrate diversity, equity, and global initiatives into the University’s core mission, vision, and strategies.
