Databases contain a wide range of periodicals including newspapers, magazines, and journals. S cholarly or academic journals are peer reviewed meaning that experts in the field have examined the studies and found them worthy of publication. They usually are preferred for academic research. 3 While the library has some journals available in print, many of the articles you need will be found using the Research Databases & Articles tab. Databases provide access to material that may not be freely available on the web.

Truncation symbols like the * allow you to search different versions of a word. For example, vaccin* will bring back different endings of that word including vaccines, vaccinate, vaccinations, etc. Spelling matters. Brainstorm different words that refer to the same thing. Try teen* OR adolescen*. Use quotation marks when you want words searched together. For example, “don’t ask, don’t tell” finds that specific phrase.

Compare them to examples provided through Cite your sources. Select the citation style you need, then copy and paste the citation into your bibliography making corrections as needed.
