Who is Invensys Automotive HVAC Controls Humidistat and motor speed controls Time Controls Thermostats Heat alarms Time Controls

OK, so? ● We will ship: – 50M smoke and co detectors – 40M to 50M appliance controls – 10M water heater controls – 5M thermostats – 1 – 2M refrigeration controls –... ● We want to/need to/must interconnect these devices!

Goals ● Lots of Sensors – 100s; Many controls – 10s ● No new wires; Reduce installation costs ● Inexpensive - < $3 modules ● Internet Connectivity ● Open Standards

Open Standards Standards are great – everyone should have one. actually “Efficiencies of proprietary solutions will be overcome by technology advances within one development cycle”

What about Zigbee ● SNL ● Stack is too: – large – 64K – complex – expensive – untested – not IP compatible

Barriers to deployment ● New Radio ● New MAC – CSMS/CA plus GTS/Beaconing ● New Network – AODV plus Cluster Tree ● New API – Zigbee API plus ZODs ● New Application ● CSMA/CA only MAC ● AODV and IP ● Sockets and SNMP Risk Mitigation

To v6 or Not to v6 ● 10M to 50M devices per year ● Devices have IEEE 64bit addresses ● Auto-configuration ● No Nat
