Phase II Implementation of Male Declaration on Control & Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia UNEP proposed Narowal for monitoring station in Pakistan

Phase II Implementation of Male Declaration on Control & Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia The matter was referred to for security clearance of the proposed site. The security agencies requested for following details: a) Rational for selecting Narowal as monitoring station; b) Whether foreigner will stay /visit the monitoring station; c) Type and lay out of monitoring station including type of construction; d) Exact location of the site (longitude/latitude); e) Bio-data of foreigners/ Pakistani to be employed at the project/ station

Phase II Implementation of Male Declaration on Control & Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia The position was clarified. However, the security agencies asked for alternate sites. The options for alternate site were discussed with Pakistan Meteorological Department. Accordingly they suggested: Minchinabad Sulamanki Headwork Bahawalnagar

Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) suggested Depalpur (District Okara)

Phase II Implementation of Male Declaration on Control & Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia The alternate sites have been informed to the Security Agencies with the request to give clearance. The decision in this regard is still awaited. Meantime Pak-EPA being NIA making necessary arrangements for transfer of funds and equipment through UNDP.
