Crowden Outdoor Education Centre Simon Mee Chief Instructor

Crowden Crowden Outdoor Education Centre is situated in the Longdendale Valley, within the Peak District National Park.

It has a long history of providing outdoor education for young people. After fire damaged the building it was re-built and re-opened in February 2007

The centre stands on its own in a beautiful location with a very remote feel. The Centre is the only user of the majority of our activity venues. This all makes a Crowden residential feel like a very special and unique experience!

Our Ethos Challenge and develop individuals to push themselves to their potential, and help them to understand what they have achieved. Provide unique outdoor education experiences that provide opportunities for young people to engage in new ways with the environment. Work closely with visiting staff to ensure maximum opportunity is created to best meet specific group and individual objectives. Keep activity programmes flexible and individually tailored to provide the best experience possible depending on group needs and the weather conditions.

ACTIVITIES Activities are covered by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) Licensing No R0410

If you come to Crowden you won’t just like it you’ll love it Crowden is fantastic because you can get to do things you never thought you would do Crowden is an astonishing experience because you can do the things you’ve never done before Crowden is an experience where you can explore the countryside. Crowden teaches you to always have a go before you give up Crowden gives a chance to learn to believe in yourself Crowden teaches you to trust others with your safety Crowden teaches you to have a positive attitude Crowden teaches you to work together Crowden teaches you communication Crowden……the confidence to do is in you!

The Building

The accommodation at Crowden is a purpose built two storey building which accommodates up to 40 people

With stairs that connect both floors Each room is situated on a short corridor Bathroom facilities are on each floor.

The centre is equipped to accommodate people with Disability It has lift to the upper floor and a level access shower.

Downstairs is the Dinning Room

There is a games and TV room Upstairs

Also upstairs is a small self catering Kitchen

There is drying room for the children to dry out their clothes

Why should children have an opportunity to visit Crowden? It is an ideal chance for children to gain the personal, social and health benefits of a residential experience It is a chance for children to learn “4 life skills” outside the boundaries of a classroom It is an opportunity for children to broaden their horizons and take part in activities that they may not ordinarily do Staying away from home allows children to get away from their immediate environment and opens up a variety of new experiences and learning opportunities which they may not be able to access at school or at home It enables children to return to the classroom with a new found sense of confidence, self awareness and an increased willingness to try something new.

Thank you for your time
