Teddy Bears Why are stuffed bears called Teddy Bears?! President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt went hunting once and found a small bear tied to a tree. He felt it was “unsportsman-like” to shoot the bear so he refused. A newspaper reported drew a cartoon of the incident in a newspaper. And his wife made w little stuffed bears with buttons for eyes. It became a hit! All little children wanted “Teddy” bear!
