PBS LESSON BE RESPONSIBLE! Expectation: Be Responsible Skill: Arrive on Time Context: Activity Period

Critical Steps Go directly to you destination Get everything you need for class in an appropriate amount of time.

Real World Application Anyone with a job has the responsibility to report to work on time. Workers who do not report to work on time have consequences including, but not limited to, losing their job completely.

Real World Application A student’s job is LEARNING. Students, like workers, are expected to report to school every day ON TIME. This also includes arriving to each class ON TIME.

A GOOD Example CONFLICT Tim needs to go from biology class in the basement to the math room at the other end of the building for his activity period. RESOLUTION Tim decides to take his books he will need in activity period to Biology so he will not have to stop at his locker losing time between classes. END RESULT Tim arrives on time by making a responsible decision.

A POOR Example  CONFLICT Jill leaves science class and is heading to the social studies room for activity period. Jill stops to talk with Kim in the hallway and both students lose track of time. Tardy bell rings and both are in the hallway still. Jill is counted tardy by social studies Teacher. RESOLUTION What should have Jill done instead??? END RESULT If Jill follows your advice, what will the new end result be?

A GOOD Example CONFLICT Jerod usually has several homework assignments to work on during activity period. He spends a lot of time looking through his locker to remember what he should take with him. RESOLUTION Jerod makes a list of assignments as he receives them in class. He can glance at the list and gather his needed books quickly. END RESULT Because of the list, Jerod is able to get his books and arrive to activity period on time.

Discussion CONFLICT Lance and Lori leave Social Studies and are headed to LAI. Both will stop at their lockers and will quickly obtain their items so they can make it to class on time. DISCUSSION What was done correctly by the two students to make sure they made it to class on time? What “distractions” were avoided by these students so that they were sure they made it to class on time?

Discussion Who are students that you see on a daily basis in our class that consistently make wise decisions to make sure they arrive on time to activity period? What are things that you could do personally that could help make sure that YOU make it to activity period on time? What are some possible “distracters” that might cause YOU personally to not be able to get to activity period on time?
