SPS Consolidation Review KFA71 18/03/2015 W. Weterings 4 Ejection kicker magnet KFA71 Together with magnet KFA79, this device kicks the beam in the aperture of SMH16 for extraction.KFA71KFA79SMH16 Installed in Configuration: 1 tank with 9 magnet modules; The magnets are of cellular, closed aperture, C-ferrite loaded transmission line type, 15Ω impedance. 1 spare tank with 9 modules exist. (not operational for the moment) Current status: All 3D CATIA models of magnet modules made and 2D drawings ready, but not checked. 2 modules have been repaired; Modules will be individually tested before assembly in the 9 modules spare tank. SPS Consolidation Review KFA79 Configuration: 1 tank with 3 magnet modules; The magnets are of cellular, closed aperture, C-ferrite loaded transmission line type, 15Ω impedance. 1 spare tank with 1 module exists. Current status: All 3D CATIA models of magnet modules made, 2D drawings ready (but not checked). At least 2 modules to be built; No supplier for ‘shiny’ laminated AlMg3 plates known, possibility of electro polishing to be investigated. 18/03/2015 W. SPS Consolidation Review KFA45 18/03/2015 W. Weterings 6 Kicker magnet KFA45.KFA45 Used to inject protons into the PS. Installed in Configuration: 1 tank with 4 magnet modules; The magnets are of cellular, closed aperture, C-ferrite loaded transmission line type, characteristic impedance of 26.3Ω. Originally designed to inject 800MeV proton. 1 spare module exists. Current status: All 3D CATIA models of magnet modules made, 2D drawings ready (but not checked). Drawings of the tank still to be made; At 2 GeV at the limit of saturation, operation with only 3 modules will be impossible. 1 tank and at least 3 modules to be built, redesign for non-saturation to be considered. SPS Consolidation Review Configuration: 3 tanks with 2 magnet modules; Different thickness of lamination between the magnets. No spare exist. Current status - Nothing has been done……. Spare magnet with thinner lamination would be preferred, due to lower eddy currents; Current magnets suffers from outgassing issues caused by the lamination oxidation; Improvement by different lamination insulation or bake-out to be studied.
