MK21: Matching policies, institutions and practices of water governance in the Salween-Thanlwin-Nu River Basin: Towards inclusive, informed, and accountable water governance AGENDA Salween Watch

Workshop objectives To ensure that consortium members are familiar and in agreement with the overarching project design To collaboratively map and agree upon water governance priorities in the Nu-Thanlwin-Salween river basin amongst the consortium members, including themes and geographical target areas (for village-level research) To co-design and agree upon the research method for the regional/ national/ transnational-level water governance To ensure that all consortium members understand the project reporting requirements (narrative and financial), and the allocated budget per organization To develop a short-term activity plan over the next 6 months

Workshop Agenda (Sunday) 9:00 – 9:15 Self introductions and share expectations 9:15 – 10:15 Introduction to the project, followed by Q&A 10:15 – 10:30Break 10:30 – 12:00Mapping key water governance issues and actors/ institutions/ policies in the Nu-Thanlwin-Salween basin from the experience of consortium members 12:00 – 13:00 Lunch 13:00 – 14:30 Discussion on a conceptual framework for water governance for our project 14:30 – 14:45Break 14:45 – 16:15Initial discussion on research design (information, interviewees, tools) at local, regional, national and transnational level 16:15 – 16:30Wrap up and feedback for day 2

Next steps (for inception workshops) Meeting with Dr. Yu on May 21 / 22 briefly in Bangkok Vanessa will be in the region in June, and we will then go to meet Dr. Yu for a China inception workshop In Chiang Mai, on July 24 and 25, at the Myanmar Studies conference, it will be an opportunity to further the university network
