Reduced power consumption and improved carriage conditions from Daikin Intermodal 2005 Bilbao

DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD.  Daikin was one of the first major manufacturers to enter the Container Reefer Market back in the 1960’s.  They were the largest supplier of reefer machines in the 1980’s, their machines providing high reliability and excellent temperature control.  Daikin are continuing to re-establish their position in the Container Reefer Market. (Currently No.2)  They are focusing on being a long-term major global supplier to the Container Industry by providing the best performing machine at realistic and economical prices.

DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD. Daikin developed their LXE10E Scroll Reefer Machine with the cooperation of shipping lines, ensuring their requirements were met. This cooperation led to Daikin providing the best overall performing machine to the container industry. Since its launch in 2001 over 60,000 machines have been sold and Daikin’s market share has increased from 5% to over 25%.

Daikin Market Share Growth due to the demand by Shipping Lines for a reliable and efficient reefer machine.

Reefer Scroll Market As a result of Daikin’s High Quality, Reliability and Performance, the Scroll Compressor has become the preferred choice in the market. In 2005, over half of the reefer machines purchased will be fitted with Scroll compressors, Daikin was and remains the major supplier of scroll machines.

DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD. They are experiencing an increasing growth in the transport of fresh produce. Environmental considerations and the cost of power generation have both increased. Daikin have therefore developed a unique control system that saves power and improves chilled carriage conditions. Very importantly this new control system can be retrofitted to Daikin’s existing machines. Daikin continue to listen to their customers;

DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD. Performance testing has been conducted by 3 separate facilities. All agree! Exhaustive durability and reliability testing has been completed. Since July field trials have been conducted. All successful. This new control system has been developed over the last 18 months by Daikin and comprehensively tested.

Daikin Temperature Management System (DTMS) DTMS works by monitoring both the Supply-Air and Return-Air Temperatures together with their rate of change. The only Reefer machine in the market to provide this type of control. By using these three parameters Daikin’s Reefer Machine controls the cargo environment throughout the container, not just the air supply. DTMS means the LXE10E machine operates at optimum efficiency, ensuring the minimum amount of power is consumed.

DTMS Power Reductions The above measurements were the average recorded over a 4 or 6 hour test period. Three separate test facilities have completed measurements.

DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD. 1.Real time monitoring. 2.Adjusting machine operation to compensate for changes in the heat load caused by changes in ambient or cargo respiration. 3.Controlling the airflow, helping to reduce product dehydration and maintaining product weight, whilst still providing sufficient ventilation. Improved Carriage conditions are provided by:

Daikin Temperature Management System Summary: The only reefer machine which monitors both supply and return air and adjusts the control functions to ensure efficient operation and control of the cargo environment throughout the container. Adjusts automatically for varying ambient conditions and internal heat loads (cargo respiration). Provides a Fail-Safe operation to always protect the cargo. Provides between 25% and 50% lower power consumption. Daikin’s high reliability levels maintained.
