Green Energy and Sustainability

What is green energy?  The combination of environmental science to conserve the natural world and its resources.

Some goals of green energy  Sustainability: meeting present needs of the world without harming future generations and their ability to survive as well.  Cradle to cradle: creating products than can be fully reclaimed or re-used in the future  Source Reduction: reducing waste and pollution by changing how things are made and used

Areas of green energy  Chemistry  Building  Information Technology  Energy

Focus: Green Energy  Why do we need green energy?  Natural resources used for energy are declining  There is an increase in pollution caused by non-renewable sources

How can we increase green energy?  Set up power plants using renewable energy sources  Get more funding from the government  Education the public

Green Energy pros and cons  More expensive  Cleaner and healthier environment  Lower operation costs  Unlimited resources
