John Dalton and His Life John Dalton was born on September 6, 1766 He was born in Eaglesfield, Cumberland, England John died in July 27, 1844 in Manchester, England He was a chemist and physicist As a child John was very poor and received most of his schooling from his own father, who was a teacher at a Quaker school. He had two siblings, a sister named Mary and a brother named Jonathon. John was never married. In about 1790 he took up an interest in law and medicine. In 1793 he moved to Manchester where he began his studies.

John’s Inspirations John’s inspirations are his dad his uncle and his cousins. He was inspired by them because he wanted a better life then what they had.

What information was known about chemistry and the atom when John started his professional career? In 460 B.C a Greek philosopher , Democritus developed the idea of atoms. He called possible bit of matter particles, atom. For more then 2000 years nobody continued to study the explorations that the Greeks started Not until the early 1800's did people begin to question the structure of matter.

What Experiments did He do? Dalton performed a series of experiments on mixtures of gasses

What did John infer about Atoms and chemistry from his experiments He was the first one to find out the total pressure of a mixture of gases Some of his modern theory of the atom based was: 1. Matter is made up of atoms that are indivisible and indestructible. 2. All atoms of an element are identical. 3. Atoms of different elements have different weights and different chemical properties. 4. Atoms of different elements combine in simple whole numbers to form compounds. 5. Atoms cannot be created or destroyed. When a compound decomposes, the atoms are recovered unchanged.

What questions came out of these experiments He kept a diary for about 57 years and had over 200,000 observations Why does not water admit its bulk of every kind of gas alike?

Inventions and technology came from his experiments? No direct inventions and technology came from his experiments.
