Idaho Science and Aerospace Scholars 2010 Annual Superintendents’ Meeting, August 6, 2010

A statewide, competitive program that allows high school juniors to take an interactive, online course highlighting science and aerospace exploration along with technology, engineering and math culminating in a summer residential academy at Boise State University and NASA Ames Research Center in California. What is the ISAS Program?

ISAS Partners

The Department funded the first year. The Department signed a memorandum of agreement with NASA Johnson Space Center to adapt their Texas High School Aerospace Scholars program for use with Idaho students. ISAS incorporates NASA-developed content within a 16-week, IDLA online learning course that supports STEM education and highlights Idaho careers in STEM-related fields. The culminating activity is the Summer Academy, where students work with STEM professionals in Idaho and at a NASA research facility. Enhancing a Successful NASA Program

 May 29, Presentation by NASA to Idaho stakeholders regarding Aerospace Scholars Programs.  June 2, Steering Committee formed to create 2010 pilot year, funded by SDE and in-kind contributions from ISAS partners.  July 30, Superintendent Tom Luna and Barbara Morgan publicly announce ISAS program  September 25, SDE submits application for NASA K-12 CAN Grant for continued program funding beyond  Fall Application process begins for Idaho students to participate in ISAS program.  December 1, SDE awarded NASA K-12 CAN Grant for nearly $1.2 million to expand and fund ISAS program for 2011 and  January 22, IDLA online course begins with 71 students participating in ISAS program for  June 2010 – Capstone Celebrations in 3 regional locations  August 1-7, 2010 – ISAS Summer Academy for 44 Idaho Aerospace Scholars attending ISAS History
