Presentation transcript:

What is a Podcast? Podcasting stands for Portable On Demand Broadcasting. Podcasts were originally audio-only but may now contain still images, video, and chapters identifying major sections or ideas.

Types of Podcasts Audio podcasts are MP3 files and the most common types of podcasts. Enhanced podcasts have images to go along with the audio. Video podcasts are movies with sound.

Viewing/Listening to a Podcast An iPod is not needed to listen to a Podcast. You can listen to a podcast using any computer connected to the Internet that has the capability of playing standard MP3 audio files. Podcasts can be downloaded and listened to on the computer. Podcasts can also be copied to portable devices. PDAs (Palm or Pocket PC), iPods, mobile phones, devises that play MP3 files.

Podcast Software There are numerous podcast software that can be downloaded to create your podcast

Creating a Podcast Step 1: Create the Content The first thing you need to consider when creating your own podcast is the content you want to include. Because we are specifically addressing educational uses of podcasting, you might want to consider adapting an existing project that you do with your students. For example, if you have your students learn about different author, it might be an idea to have them create a podcast about a specific author.

Creating a Podcast Step 2: Record Your Podcast To record a voice you can either use the built-in microphone on the computer, or you can integrate a stand-alone USB microphone. Use your podcast software to edit your podcast.

Creating a Podcast Step 4: Post Your Podcast When you are happy with your podcast you are then ready to post your podcast your teacher website. Follow the Schoolwires website instruction for posting to your teacher website.
