OHS Dance Teams Pre-Audition Meeting April 22 nd, 2015

Welcome Coaches: –Coach Henrikson, Varsity Halftime –Coach Meenan, JV Halftime

The Pantherettes Halftime Dance Team is… …a non-competitive, spirit-based dance team that performs for the pre-game and Halftime at our OHS home football games. The styles of dance we perform include pom, jazz, kick and hip hop. Our season concludes with our final home football game in October.

Halftime Vs. Competitive Dance Team: Halftime Teams (football season) –JV & Varsity (max. 20 dancers on each team) –Tryouts in May –Teams perform at all home football games –Designated as an “activity” at OHS Competitive Team (basketball season) –Tryouts in October –Teams compete in IHSA and perform at all home basketball games (JV: IHSA invites only; Varsity: works to qualify for State) –Designated as a “sport” at OHS Dancers may audition for EITHER season or BOTH

Do I need dance experience? YES! Dance teams have become SO advanced in recent years that it’s essential for members to have previous dance experience, training, or practice of some kind!

Estimated Costs Participation in Dance Team costs money… Estimated costs for Halftime team: –New members: $350+ –Returning members: $150+

Time Commitment: Halftime Team June – October Summer weekly practices on Tuesday nights, OHS Fall practices twice a week on Tues./Thurs. after school Home football games, Aug. – Oct. Additional performances as needed (Pantherfest in August & Homecoming Pep Rally)

Time Commitment: Competitive Team November – February (through end of basketball season) Home basketball games, November – February IHSA Competitions, December – January –IHSA Sectional – Sat. Jan. 23 rd 2016 –IHSA State – Friday, Jan. 29 th & Sat. January 30 th 2016 Additional performances as needed (pep rallies, school/community functions)

Summer 2014 Summer Practices –Tuesdays weekly, 4-7pm, June 2 nd – July 21 st K-8 Youth Summer Dance Camp –June 15 th – 18 th, Thompson Jr. High –Sign up through the Oswegoland Park District Go to OR call the Park District at http:// JV & Varsity Home Camp - $100 fee –July 27 th – July 31 st (M-F), Thompson Jr. High 7 th Annual Pantherfest at OHS –Friday, August 21 st 2015, 4:30-8:30pm

Online Info Pantherettes Audition Website: –Go to –Read the Standards & Expectations of the Dance Team –Familiarize yourself with the skills described and linked to videos on the website –Sign and bring “Tryout Information Sheet” to first day of tryouts on May 5 th Oswego Athletic Website: –Go to –Click on “registration.” New members must create an account, returning members must log in with an existing account. Must have a physical on file to tryout – drop off to Sarah Miller, Athletic Secretary at OHS.

Halftime Auditions Skills Workshop (optional): –$10 fee (checks made out to OHS) –Tuesday, April 28 th –5-8pm in OHS Fieldhouse Audition Clinics: –May 5 th -7 th (Tuesday – Thursday, 6-8pm in Fieldhouse) –May 8 th (Optional Friday, 4-6pm in Fieldhouse and/or Dance Room) Final Audition: –Saturday, May 9 th –Beginning at 9am –Sign-up for audition time will be provided during clinics

Auditions: What to Wear Clothes you can move in! Jazz pants/leggings, capris, shorts Tanks, short-sleeved fitted shirts, leotards (solid colors best) Jazz shoes or gym shoes No bare midriffs, no baggy clothes, no sweats, no bare feet!

If you do not make the team… Enroll at a local dance studio –Ballet –Jazz Get involved with another sport, activity or club at OHS Consider auditioning for other performance opportunities in theatre or music. Try again next year!
