Presentation transcript:

English 2 November I can edit sentences for mistakes in mechanics, specifically quotation marks. I can demonstrate comprehension of increasingly difficult texts by answering literal and interpretive questions. I can write informative paragraphs that explain the arguments of two different authors.

Grammar-Turn in to Mr. Franklin. You will have 15 minutes to complete this assignment. Do page 299 in the English Workshop books. WRITE THE SENTENCES CORRECTLY. You do not need to use editing marks for this exercise. PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES AT THE TOP OF PAGE 299. Note that we use single quotation marks to show a quotation inside another quotation. She said, “In reply, I will quote our mayor: ‘Recycling is a community effort.’”

Read and Annotate “Why a Great Individual is Better Than a Team” (the back of the article about groups we read last week) Note the main ideas in the margins beside each paragraph. Underline details in the paragraphs. Circle words or phrases (not sentences) that sound important YOU WILL HAVE 10 MINUTES TO DO THIS ACTIVITY

Write two paragraphs explaining what each article argues. Follow the model below. The general argument made by (author X) in his/her work “Title of article” is that. First, he argues that. He writes that, suggesting that. Then he argues that. He shows this when he writes, suggesting that. The general argument made in the second article, “Title of the article” by (author Y) is that. First, he argues that. He writes that, suggesting that. Then he argues that. He shows this when he writes, suggesting that.

Read chapter 9 in A Long Way Gone. As you read chapter nine, note how the following characters might react to meeting the group of seven boys. Using the labeled identity, write from the perspective of the person and their thoughts/actions upon meeting the 7 boys.
