Age/race/sex predilections and Systemic Clinical Features: Cat Cry syndrome is from birth, it occurs equally in both males and females. The deletion of the short arm is caused by a break in the DNA molecule that makes up a chromosome. In most cases, the chromosome break occurs while the sperm or egg cell is developing. When this cell is fertilized, the child will develop cat cry syndrome. The systemic clinical features of Cat Cry Syndrome are that the will have a cat-like cry, and sever mental retardation. The cry is caused by abnormal larynx development. Orofacial Clinical Features They may have a small head, an unusually round face, a small chin, widely set eyes, folds of skin over their eyes, and a small bridge of the nose. Oral problems can be hypodontia, delayed eruption, cleft palate, and malocclusion. Radiographic Features of this Syndrome There are no radiographic features for this disease.

Special considerations in treatment for this patient would be the severity of the patients mental retardation, and what affects it has on the patient. Cat Cry syndrome is diagnosed by the infant's cat-like cry. Doctors can also test for cat cry syndrome while the baby is still in its mother's womb. They can either test a tiny sample of tissue from outside the sac where the baby develops, or they can test a sample of the amniotic fluid. Cat Cry syndrome occurs in an estimated 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns. This disease would be a Zebra.
