Shakespeare’s Language Learning Objectives  To understand some of the features of Shakespeare’s language.  To be able to match up modern translations with the Shakespearean version.

Success Criteria  I MUST be able to match up modern translations with the Shakespearean version.  I SHOULD be able to translate modern language into Shakespearean Language.  I COULD create my own sentences using Shakespearean language.

The Big Question  Can we understand what Shakespeare is saying?

Starter  Look at the sheet that you have been given. Match up the contractions with the words in full. sheet

Task 1  You have been given a sheet that has a list of Shakespearean terms and a Modern English translation.  You need to translate the Shakespearean sentences into Modern English using the glossary. Write out the Shakespearean sentence and your translation in your exercise book.

Task 2  Now that you have shown that you can translate sentences from Shakespearean English into Modern English, you are going to try and translate Modern English translations into Shakespearean English.  You need to write out the sentences and their translation in your exercise book.

Extension Task  Once you have finished translating the sentences, try to make up some of your own using the words in the glossary. Write the sentence and its translation in your exercise book.

Plenary  Write down three words that you have learnt during the lesson.  Look back at your Success Criteria and tick off those that you have met.
