Future City Project

Define the Problem  We have to create a futuristic city with a movable aspect. The city must also be entirely built from recycled materials.

Brainstorm  We want a city that is entirely built from recycled material such as old toys, used paper, and wood.  Our project may also include a different source of electricity.  The city that we are creating should have a fan that we built from scratch.

Generate Ideas  We wanted to have water, windmill, and another source of energy such as solar or thermal energy.  The city was originally a levitating city but because of resource scarcity and time shortage, we abandoned it.

Identify Criteria and Constraints  The future city needs a moving part.  The project needs to be finished in two weeks.

Exploring Possibilities  The idea of a levitating city is too complex because it is time consuming. Time isn’t our best friend for this project.  The city can use hydroelectric energy as its main source of electricity.

Select an Approach  We glued two recycled pieces of cardboard for the base of our city.  We used real sand as a beach and built our own working windmill.  We also created an irrigation system.

Develop a Design Proposal

Build a Model or a Prototype

Test and Evaluate the Design using Specification No testing was needed.

Refine the Design  The moving object that James made short circuited. The whole circuit needs to be replaced for the fan to work again.  The base was also structured so it can support more items.

Create or Make a Solution  The wires for the fan shouldn’t touch to avoid short circuit.  The buildings were also reinforced so that it can stand.

Communicate Processes and Results  This project was basically an art project. The constraints were limited. The project should’ve involved more “Engineering stuff” rather than just art.
