@ TAB Arts and Culture: Started February 2009 Energy Communications & Information Technology: Starting September 2010 SHSM

What is SHSM? The SHSM program is a new Ministry of Education program offering first hand training in all 4 career pathway destinations: Apprenticeship College University Workplace

What is SHSM? SHSM allows students to focus their Grade 11 and 12 studies in an area that reflects their strengths and interests. SHSM Students graduate with a Specialist High Skills Major designation indicated on their education transcript.

SHSM programs give students the opportunity to earn a special diploma which is distinguished by a red seal. What is SHSM?

Students in the program must take a specific “bundle” of credits. The credit bundle is specific to the student’s SHSM area of focus.

What is SHSM? In addition, Contextualized Learning Activities are included in the supporting subject areas. This allows the student to connect the content of their SHSM focus across subject areas, and create projects connected to their interests.

Through enriched course content, seminars, field trips, job shadowing, co-op etc. students in this program will be prepared for industry-identified knowledge, skills and certifications in their SHSM area. Why SHSM?

Students can gain industry certifications such as: WHMIS Standard First Aid Adult CPR There are also certifications customized for each SHSM.

The program will give students advanced exposure to enriched skills and knowledge in their SHSM focus area through: “Reach Ahead” Seminars “On the Job” learning opportunities Co-op placements in their chosen area Why SHSM?
