 Introduction to green chemistry  10 th Principle overview ◦ Current Problem ◦ Some Solutions  1 st Principle overview ◦ Problem At hand ◦ What Australia is doing  To conclude

 Green chemistry is a chemical philosophy encouraging the design of products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.  In this presentation the 10 th principle of Green chemistry: The aim to design chemicals and products to degrade after use; and the 1 st principle: which emphasises on.

 The 10 th principle is the aim to design chemicals and products to degrade after use. One example would be to design a chemical product like plastic bags but is biodegradable and can be mass produced at a low cost.

 In this day and age we have our landfills fill with rubbish that are non-biodegradable meaning they don’t slowly disappear they will eventually go but by then the amount of rubbish will fill our Earth by then. There are other ways to deal with these rubbish which is to burn them which releases toxic fumes into the environment which also damage the ozone layer.

 Some industries are taking in the idea of green chemistry and is willing to make less profit to help reduce the production of non- biodegradable by-products.

 The 1 st principle involves dealings with the waste products that industries which use chemical reactions to produce their products causes.

 The biggest waste produced in industries is carbon. Which is a factor which adds to the damage of the ozone layer which is what protects this planet from the dangers of outer space.

 The Australian government has introduced the “Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme” which aims at reducing the amount of carbon Australia creates for it’s industries.  More information can be found at rading/index.html rading/index.html

 To conclude the world today is embracing green chemistry as a way to help us get on with our lives and protect this Earth “We only have one Earth it’s brought us here and has made us who we are, 365 days a year we are taking from it 365 days a year we should be giving back to it.” – Quote from Australian Green Party Leader Bob Brown.
