Sheet Metal Fab 100 Metal Rose Project

 Break up into small groups and make a list of expected materials and tool that you think will be needed for this project.  There are many great websites and videos on the internet that show examples of how it is made.  You may use your phones, tablets, computers, etc.

How it’s Made  Each group will share with the rest of the class what types of tools and materials we will need for this project.

Safety Equipment  Leather gloves  Safety glasses  Tinted goggles

Materials Needed  2x 5”x5” pieces of galvanized tin.  12” barbed wire  1 stick of flux coated brazing rod  Green and red spray paint.

Tools Needed  Duck bill pliers  Needle nose pliers  Metal shears  Acetylene torch  Heavy wire cutters

Step 1  Measure and cut out:  1x 5’’ round of tin  1x 4.5’’ round of tin

Step 2  Cut four 1.5’’ slits toward the middle of each piece.

Step 3  One ear at a time, fold over the edge with your duck bill pliers, and curve the petal until it starts to take the shape of a rose.

Step 4  Once both pieces are shaped, they will be placed within one another and brazed together.

Step 5  Carefully cut of 1 12’’ piece of barbed wire and braze it to the bottom of the rose.

Step 6  Paint your roses whatever color you like, and be amazed at what you have created with your own hands.
