ROLES OF A PURITAN WIFE The first being that women were considered to be “the weaker vessel in both body and mind” Husbands shouldn’t expect much from their wife. “the Husband is ever to be esteem’d the Superior, the Head, and to be reverenc’d and obey’d as such.”

ROLES OF A PURITAN MOTHER Women had direct authority of the children the mother taught her children religious piety, manners, discipline, and affection. Most women lost half of their children in infancy, and twenty percent of women died in child birth.
