Cycle 15 LRP Construction and Characteristics July 21, 2006

Planning the Cycle HST executed ~73 est_orbits/wk during the 2-gyro period of Cycle 14. On July 21, 2006, (the 219 calendar is beginning to build), 3730 orbits had plan windows past At 73 est_orbs/wk, this would imply 51 full weeks of planning  330 est_orbs of tail. However there are ~ 500 orbits of unplanned visits, so the true tail is ~830 est_orbs. > integ baselined-lrp Summary integration report 275 days in date range [ to ) --Date Range- ___Orbs/D___ ___Free/D___ ___Hide/D___ ___E-Fr/D___ ___E-Hi/D___ ___Oflo/D___ HOPR~ 70 orbits DD~ 70 orbits TOO~200 orbits CAL~175 orbits Approximate Unplanneds:

RA Fights in Cycle 15 UDF + SHOES, et.al. Coma + SHOES, et.al SHOES, et.al. Plot does not show 10862, Saturn campaign at ~ 140 degrees.

An initial Cycle LRP Build with all possible packed prior to From , Classical resources show: orbits/day, and 8.34 effective-SAA-free / day (5.5 explicit SAA-free/day) > integ res_C15B01T09L02.rpt Summary integration report over 147 days in date range [ to ) --Date Range- ___Orbs/D___ ___Free/D___ ___Hide/D___ ___E-Fr/D___ ___E-Hi/D___ ___Oflo/D___

Validator also implied a problem on the initial ‘packed’ Cycle Build > integ res_VC15B01T09L03.rpt Summary integration report on resources over 147 days in date range [ to ) --Date Range- ___Orbs/D___ ___Free/D___ ___Hide/D___ ___E-Fr/D___ ___E-Hi/D___ ___Oflo/D___ From , Classical resources show: 9.99 orbits/day and 6.84 effective-SAA- free per day. Even with optimistic “validation”, the winter is orbits oversubscribed.

After Correcting Winter Oversubscription > integ baselined-lrp Summary integration report over 147 days in date range [ to ) --Date Range- ___Orbs/D___ ___Free/D___ ___Hide/D___ ___E-Fr/D___ ___E-Hi/D___ ___Oflo/D___ After de-oversubscribing the winter: 8.91 est_orbs/day 6.78 effective SAA-free est_orbs/day (4.65 explicit SAA-free).

Caveats about over-interpreting Validator results Validator results must be taken in context. Validator is not calibrated against SPSS scheduling, particularly against 2-gyro. E.g.: Degree of reliance upon SAA-friendly scheduling in SPSS is unknown, Efficiency of SAA-free usage is unknown, SPIKE has no knowledge of MAG-field slew issues, No slew constraint in SPIKE, Some SPIKE-SPSS orbital viewing issues are known.

Validation at free=5/hider=4 These validation levels leave an orbit/day in the average free limits for the unplanned. No “margin” for saa-hiding. Should be taken in context of planning process and other validation runs.

Validation at Free=5/Hide=3 These validation levels leave an orbit/day each in the average free & hider limits for the unplanned. Should be taken in context of planning process and other validation runs.
